5 Things You May Have Missed About The Mazda CX-8

It comes as a surprise to many that Pickup-based Passenger Vehicles or PPVs are now getting quite expensive. When Mazda Philippines launched the CX-8 mid-sized SUV, it served as an alternative to the typical pickup-based mid-sized SUV choices in the market. But what if you wanted something more; something with all the bells-and-whistles? Well, for P 160,000 more, there’s this: the CX-8 AWD Exclusive.

Review: 2020 Mazda CX-8 Signature 2WD

Mazda has been taking their approach to premium the same way the Germans have: plug very conceivable niche. It may not feel it, but the carmaker actually has five SUVs in its product range—that’s as many as Honda (three) and Subaru (two) combined. And though Toyota has seven, its price spread is rather large—P 3.967 million compared to Mazda’s P 1.65-million. With such a dizzying array of choices crammed into a small price bracket, where does the CX-8 fit into all this?

From Space-Efficient Coupes to Luxury SUVs: How Mazda Evolved the Family Car

The family car: while it has to be good at practical things like seating capacity and cargo space, style and performance too often end up taking a back seat. How the Mazda CX-8 Embodies Japanese Hospitality

Omotenashi. It’s known the world over as “Japanese hospitality,” but its literal translation gives a much deeper meaning: “Omote” means public face while “Nashi” means nothing. Combining them means every service is from the bottom of the heart—honest and genuine—the very same ideas that describe the Mazda CX-8.

The 2020 Mazda CX-8 is Meant to be Both a Luxury MPV and a Family-Oriented SUV

With confirmation that the Mazda CX-8 is arriving to the Philippines (check out our first drive here), it becomes an interesting alternative to the usual suspect of mid-sized SUVs. While the local spec and pricing has yet to be announced, it’s understood that Mazda Philippines is toying to bring in just one variant of its three-row crossover.

First Drive: 2020 Mazda CX-8 2.5 Skyactiv-G AWD

The story of the CX-8 is a rather unremarkable one. Mazda once had an MPV, the Mazda8, which was actually marketed with the tagline, “the idea of a sportscar – inherited by a minivan.” It was, in every sense of the word, a mom mobile that that very tagline was delivered by a middle-aged woman in Japan. But as the company shifted its attention to all things KODO and Skyactiv, they found themselves with an opportunity: should they make something pleasing to soccer moms or should they make a three-row SUV? Focused group studies and likely, simpler engineering costs dictated the latter, and thus, the CX-8 was born.

It's Confirmed: the Mazda CX-8 is Coming to the Philippines

After a premature announcement two years ago and an announcement that it’ll be assembled alongside the CX-5 in Malaysia, Mazda Philippines is confirming that it is expanding its CX-line of vehicles with the 2020 CX-8 (check out our first impressions). Sitting between the CX-5 and CX-9 in size (and likely price), the CX-8 is a new option in the growing number of three-row SUVs in the market.
