BYD Dolphin, Seal Score 5-Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating

The BYD Dolphin and Deal join the Atto 3 in scoring a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. The two full-electric vehicles performed to a very high standard throughout one of the world’s toughest safety tests, scoring excellent in both adult and child occupant protection.

Euro NCAP created the star safety rating system to help consumers, their families and businesses compare vehicles more easily and to help them identify the safest choice for their needs. The BYD Seal and Dolphin were assessed by the organization in four categories: Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Safety Assistant Technologies, and Vulnerable Road Users Protection.

Key to the maximum test result is BYD’s build quality and technology. BYD’s new generation e-Platform 3.0, comprises the world’s first mass-produced highly integrated 8-in-1 electric powertrain connecting all electric control units and management systems, and the rigorously tested Blade Battery. The BYD e-Platform 3.0 features a ‘multi-load path’ structure controlling how energy is absorbed by the car in the event of a collision, minimizing intrusion into the passenger cabin.

Passenger protection is further enhanced by a reinforced body structure with high torsional rigidity. The Seal, for example, has a supercar-like torsional stiffness resulting in an 89 percent score in Adult Occupant Protection. In the Child Occupant protection tests, the Seal achieved an 87 percent score, minimizing impact to all critical body areas for both child dummies in both frontal and side barrier tests. Vulnerable Road Users like pedestrians, or cyclists, are 82 percent adequately protected due to the Autonomous Emergency Braking System (AEB).

Meanwhile, the Dolphin scored an equally impressive 89 percent with the Euro NCAP praising how the passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal offset test. In the Child Occupant protection tests, the Dolphin achieved an 87 percent score. Also, the test on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision. The Dolphin’s safety assist system and vulnerable road user protection scored 79 percent and 85 percent, respectively thanks to the performance of the camera-based ADAS system.
